We are looking to recruit an experienced safeguarding professional, with experience of having been a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or Deputy within a school or academy, to join us as an Education Safeguarding Advisor, reporting directly to a Senior School Improvement Advisor.
This is an influential post within the Education Strategy and Performance Team and Children and Young People’s Service requiring a broad range of safeguarding experience and knowledge.
About the role
The Education Safeguarding Team provides advice, support and challenge to schools across Local Authority Maintained Schools in Wakefield. The Education Safeguarding Team helps schools develop their own practice by undertaking safeguarding reviews and ensure that this learning contributes to DSL development and other training that contributes to whole school development in all aspects of safeguarding and DSL training. The post holder also works closely with the Head of Service to respond to Ofsted complaints, delivering responses that support continuous improvement. The postholder may also be responsible for the delivery of training across the district.
About you
You will be an experienced safeguarding professional who has a strong background in safeguarding, partnership work and a good understanding of the key issues schools and colleges manage as part of their safeguarding practice.
You will have a thorough knowledge of safeguarding in education settings but also use your skills of influence, leadership, and negotiation to support schools and get the very best for children in Wakefield.
You will work closely with an established Education Safeguarding Advisor and School Improvement Team to ensure the development of appropriate and engaging training and will require an excellent working knowledge of key legislation and guidance applicable to education settings.

This is a temporary 0.8 role (4 days a week) and key to success is building relationships with schools and statutory partners in a multi-agency environment.
