Wakefield Council is looking for an experienced environmental health professional with the necessary management and leadership qualities to deliver and continuously improve the Council’s environmental health service for the benefit of residents and businesses in the district.
This role will be responsible for managing the Council’s Environmental Health Service with over fifty professional and technical staff delivering a range of functions including food safety, health & safety, community & environmental protection, animal health and welfare, pest control services and the Service’s commercial services unit including Primary Authority, consultancy, advice and training services.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Service’s £2m revenue budget, including income generating services. The role requires an excellent understanding of the regulatory framework and principle of regulatory practice of environmental health.
The successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate good strategic and operational management capabilities and deliver high quality, high performing services, with a strong focus on customer service. The right candidate will also be able to work effectively with internal and external partnerships to deliver the Council’s ambitions and strategic objectives.
