We are looking for an individual to support the delivery of cultural development so that visitors and local people can access high quality services and cultural experiences.
Our goal is that the Wakefield district is a place where new art is made, and creatives thrive. We aim to have accessible and inclusive engagement and participation in inspiring and high-quality creative activities across all communities in the district.
The Cultural Development department has recently grown at the council, now leading on culture grants for individual artists, creative organisations, and community groups across the district. For more information about our grants please visit: www.wakefield.gov.uk/culture-grants (webpage live 7th March).
In addition to supporting local creatives, the department also commissions public art informed by the new Public Art Framework for the district, as well as projects such as the cultural programme to the Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) on Westgate in Wakefield city centre. We frequently lead and support wider strategic cultural investment and development activity across Wakefield district.
As part of the role, we would like an individual who can:
Cultural Development collaborates with colleagues across the whole of Arts Culture and Leisure (ACL) department at the council. Working closely with our colleagues in Creative Wakefield, with the newly formed network and Creative Wakefield Framework, as well as Museums & Castles, Libraries, Tourism, Festivals and Events, Sport and Active Lifestyles, and Health Improvement. This means that from time to time the Cultural Development Coordinator will occasionally work across teams to support on projects and collaborate with colleagues.
For 2022, we rejuvenated our culture grants offer, re-structuring our support and streamlining the background procedures and systems. The Cultural Development Coordinator will therefore support all tasks related to these new procedures, including tracking payments, collating applications, and project evaluations, and help to sustain the efficiencies of the department as it grows.
Cultural Development is a department that engages with community groups and professional artists, therefore there will be lots of opportunities to network, liaise with individuals and organisations, as well as build professional relationships with the creative sector across the district. We attend events, exhibition openings, networking sessions, and travel across the district leading information sessions about the grants.
